Editorial Standards & Review Process

Last updated: April 2025

At stdpedia.net, we take our responsibility seriously. Sexual health is a topic that sits squarely in the category of information that can genuinely affect your wellbeing. Our editorial standards exist to make sure that everything published on this site is accurate, fair, up to date, and written with your best interests at hand.

Who writes our content?

All articles on stdpedia.net are written by Richard D. Porter, our founder and lead health writer. Richard does not write anonymously or use ghostwriters. Every article carries his name because he stands behind every word.

How our research process works

We use a two-stage process for every article:

Stage one is research. We use AI-assisted tools to gather and organize current data, clinical guidelines, peer-reviewed studies, and patient-facing guidance from authoritative sources. Primary sources we reference include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Mayo Clinic, PubMed, the World Health Organization (WHO), and MedlinePlus. AI is used strictly as a research and data-collection tool — it does not write our content.

Stage two is writing. Richard reads, evaluates, and synthesizes all research, then writes every article from scratch in his own voice. He applies his editorial judgment to determine what is accurate, what is useful, and what should be included or excluded.

We openly disclose our use of AI research tools. For full details, see our AI Disclosure page.

Our sources

We do not cite Wikipedia, anonymous blogs, forums, or unverified user-generated content as primary sources. We link directly to government health agencies, academic journals, and recognized medical institutions wherever possible.

Accuracy and corrections

We make every effort to ensure accuracy before publishing. If you spot an error, outdated information, or something that concerns you, please contact us at info@stdpedia.net. We take correction requests seriously and will review and update content promptly where warranted.

Content updates

Medical guidance evolves. We review our most-read articles on a rolling basis and aim to update any article containing time-sensitive clinical information at least once every 12 months. Updated articles display a “last reviewed” date at the top.

What we are not

We are a health information website, not a medical practice. Our content is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. We do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or replace the care of a licensed healthcare provider. Always consult a qualified doctor or healthcare professional for personal medical decisions.

Affiliate relationships

Some articles on stdpedia.net contain affiliate links to products and services we discuss. This never influences what we write or recommend. Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial relationships. For full details, read our Affiliate Disclosure.
